REOPENING THE GYM

We’re very happy to announce that the Hallamshire gym will reopen its doors from Tuesday 15th September for the first time since lockdown began in March.

Government guidelines regarding ventilation and the spread of COVID19 have meant that we were unable to open the gym on the 25th July, when other gyms were allowed to open.  However, we have now upgraded the ventilation system to meet the requirements, and so we can now reopen to our members.

This will be a phased reopening, with phase 1 commencing on Tuesday 15th September.

Phase 1

We shall be opening for 3 days in that first week and then 5 days the week commencing 21st September.  Our opening hours will be slightly different from our pre-lockdown hours in order to allow staff time to deep clean the equipment and surfaces and ensure that they are ready for the next day’s session.

COVID restrictions mean that gym sessions will have to be booked.  50 minute sessions can be booked by calling reception on 01142662153.  The sessions will be bookable on the hour, with a 10 minute window to allow the previous bookings to exit before the next bookings arrive.  The gym is limited to a maximum of 6 gym members at any one time.

Members can only book 1 session per day in during phase 1.  Bookings can be made up to 14 days in advance.

Pre-attendance symptoms check

Anyone attending a venue (including members, players, coaches, staff and any other visitors), should undergo a pre-attendance self-assessment for any COVID19 symptoms using the information on this NHS website before leaving home: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/

Anyone returning to sport and exercise after a period of inactivity should consult a GP before returning to exercise of any kind.

No-one should attend the Hallamshire if they, or someone they live with, has symptoms of COVID19, which are currently recognised as any of the following:

- A high temperature

- A new, continuous cough

- A loss of, or change to, their sense of smell or taste.

Should an individual demonstrate any such symptoms, they must follow NHS and PHE guidance on self-isolation.

In line with government guidelines, the Hallamshire recommends the wearing of a face covering when at the Hallamshire.

Any returning members who have suffered from COVID19 or any other illnesses during the lockdown must check with their GP before returning to play at the Hallamshire.

Your temperature will be checked on arrival.

Arriving at the Hallamshire

Please make sure that you have pre-booked a slot in the gym before coming to the Hallamshire.

Under 18 year olds will only be able use the gym when it is staffed.

On arrival at the club, we have introduced additional measures to comply with government guidelines as follows:

-Sign in on arrival for track and trace.

-Socially distanced machines.

-One way system.

-Temperature check system in place.

-Additional hand sanitiser in the club and gym.

-Additional cleaning stations in the gym.

Men’s and ladies’ changing rooms are open but we advise, in line with government guidelines, that members arrive changed and shower at home.

In the gym

You will need to be aware of your surroundings.

There are 4 cleaning stations in the gym. Each cleaning station is equipped with a disinfectant spray and disposable blue tissues. After you have used a piece of equipment you are expected to clean that equipment before returning it to its place or leaving it.

There are 3 hand sanitiser stations in the gym. We encourage you to use them as often as you change equipment.

Current guidelines still require a social distance of 2metres, and greater where possible.

Leaving the gym

When leaving the gym, please do the following:

  • Clean down any equipment you have just used.

  • Use the hand sanitiser provided before leaving.

  • Leave the gym at 10 minutes to the hour.

  • Follow the one way system through indoor tennis court 1 to exit the building.  This will lead you to the ladies’ and men’s changing rooms if required.

  • Sign out on exiting the building for track and trace.

In Phase 1 we shall not be allowing visitors (ie non-members) into the gym in order that we can assess demand.

We shall be taking new members, referred by current members, in the first 2 weeks of reopening.  Membership prices are given below:

Adult 3 month - £70.00

Adult 3 month Off Peak - £50.00

Gym staffing

Through the last few months we have been looking at all aspects of the club in the context of COVID19 and in the time when normal service can resume.  We have needed to take steps in certain areas to ensure the long term financial stability of the club while trying to provide the same level of service to members.

Slightly reduced gym opening hours and the gym being unmanned at quieter times are results of this examination, and they are due in part to the long lasting effects of COVID19 on the Hallamshire as a business and in part to looking at the future of the gym as an integral part of the club’s operation.

Thank you to all our members for their patience and understanding while we have been working towards the gym reopening.
