Hallamshire Guidelines for Re-opening of Outdoor Tennis Courts (22nd May 2020)
BEFORE YOU PLAY
Make sure your membership is up to date and you have enough money on your account to book a court. You can renew your membership or top up your account by calling 01142662153 in one of our dedicated renewal slots. Minimum top up over the phone is £20.00.
Arrange to play only with family members or others who live in your household or with individuals who are considered to be low risk from a different household. Doubles can now be played with 4 separate households.
Do not play if any of you are exhibiting any symptoms of the coronavirus, which are mild to severe respiratory difficulties, fever, cough or any other symptoms identified by NHS UK.
Do not play if you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
Pre-book your court online or over the phone. The club is suspending walk-on courts; all courts will need to be paid for in advance in order to play. Please do not come to the club and expect to walk on a court. Outdoor courts are £2.00 per booking for an adult/student and £1.00 for a junior.
Please be aware you can only book up to 2 consecutive courts, and you can only play with one person outside of your household on any given day.
Under 16's may only play with an adult or a coach. Two Under 16's may not play together at this point.
The club, in this phase of re-opening, will not allow anyone who is spectating to come into the club. Parents must drop children off at the door for coaching and wait in the car or return in advance of the court end time to pick up their child at the front door.
Coaches should take lessons on the same court where possible; therefore members having coached sessions must liaise with the coach and be aware of this when booking a court online or over the phone in order that the coach can remain on the relevant court. We are aware that juniors/Under 16s are very fond of some of our coaches, so please remind them that they will need to stay at least 6 feet or 6 junior racket lengths away from the coach.
Coaches will liaise with clients regarding tennis ball provision for lessons.
When arriving at the club, please observe the queuing system in place. Court 8 is at the front of the queue, followed by 7, then 6 and so on. This is due to court 8 being the furthest from the entrance and court 1 being the closest. If you are playing someone from a different household, please maintain 2 metres distance from your opponent.
All changing facilities at the club are to remain closed. Use of all club facilities other than a toilet are prohibited by the Government and LTA.
All benches, bins and trays have been removed. Please bear this in mind and take all refuse home with you.
Court bookings are to last 50 minutes rather than a full hour. This is to allow a buffer advised by LTA between bookings.
Partners, family members and children of current members may join the club at the time of this phased re-opening. A 3 month membership is £100 for adults, £60 for students, £10 for under 8, £15 for U14 and £40 for U18. No joining fees will apply.
PREPARING TO PLAY
Protect against infections by washing your hands before going on court with a disinfectant soap and water for 20 seconds or longer, or use a hand sanitiser if soap and water are not readily available. In addition:
Be aware before arriving which court you are playing on.
Clean and wipe down your equipment, including rackets and water bottles. Do not share rackets or any other equipment such as wristbands, grips, hats and towels.
Bring a full water bottle as there is no water provision at the club.
Use new balls and a new grip if possible. Balls are available to purchase upon entering the club. They are £7.00. Payment will need to be contactless only. No cash or chip and pin.
Consider taking extra precautions such as wearing gloves.
If you need to sneeze or cough, do so into a tissue or use your upper sleeve.
If possible, walk or cycle to the club. Be at the club no later than 10 minutes before your start time of your court and queue at the correct court sign. These signs will be positioned along the main building in the car park.
Avoid touching court gates, fences etc. if you can.
Adhere to social distancing and the one way system in the club and courts area.
Try to stay at least six feet apart from other players. Do not make physical contact with them (such as shaking hands or a high five or touching racket heads). Also:
Avoid touching your face after handling a ball, racket or other equipment. Wash your hands promptly if you have touched your eyes, nose or mouth.
Avoid sharing food, drinks or towels.
Use your racket/foot to pick up balls and hit them to your opponent. Avoid using your hands to pick up the balls.
Each player should have their own set of balls that are initialled. Each player serves with his/her balls and the opponent knocks them back with the racket when the point is over, before using their own balls for service.
Stay on your side of the court. Avoid changing ends of the court.
Remain apart from other players when taking a break.
If a ball from another court comes to you, send it back with a kick or with your racket.
There is a toilet facility. If required, please make your way through to the double doors on the patio. If there is a queue, the location of the queue will be marked out. Once you have been to the toilet, exit towards reception and back out to the courts via the way you originally entered.
Leave the court as soon as your 50 minute booking is finished. If you have booked a double court then you may play through this 10 minute window, but you must vacate at the end of the 50 minute mark of the 2nd court.
Wash your hands thoroughly or use a hand sanitiser after coming off the court. Whilst the new set of players make their way to their courts you may need to halt play momentarily to allow for social distancing. If you do book a double court we advise that courts 8, 3 or 2, so as to cause least disruption.
Please place a jumper/sweatshirt over your sweaty top to stop potential contamination.
No extra-curricular or social activity should take place.
All players should leave the facility immediately after play, following the same procedure as upon entering the club. Players on court 1 should leave first, then those from court 2 and so on, so that players of court 8 are the last to leave.
